Cyber Excerpt WordPress Plugin

This plugin will help solve several issues using the Excerpt instead of the Content on a WordPress blog. A lot of WordPress blogs will use the excerpt on several pages other than the single post page to keep the blog clean and duplicate content down. With Cybers Excerpt Plugin you can take this to a new level, including the following capabilities.

  • Change the word count for the excerpt
  • Set a custom word count by page type, such as, Index, Archive, Tag, Category or Search Results.
  • Applies a more link at the end of each post that includes the Title.

Here is an example of the transformation from full content to a custom CybersExcerpt on a Home Page.

This first image is of a post with the standard full content displaying for each post on the home page. This style takes up a lot of room on the main page and gives the reader the exact duplicate content that will appear on the Post page.

Pot using standard full content

Using the standard Excerpt can be very helpful in reducing the size and duplicate content on a site. Notice that the formatting is off a little as the Excerpt does not handle the paragraph and breaks very well, and there is no link to read more at the bottom of the post. The Standard length is 55 words.

Post using standard Excerpt

Here is the same page formatted with the Cybe Excerpt. The default length is 50 words but can be easily changed in the Settings option within WordPress without changing any code. Also notice that we have taken care of the paragraph and break formatting to give the excerpt and much cleaner look. And last, but not least, there is a link at the bottom of the post to direct the reader to the full post.

NameCheap Twitter Contest

NameCheap has come up with a pretty cool contest using Twitter. They are giving away $17,000 worth of domain and domain transfers and getting people involved is a key element to branding.

The contest also has an interesting verification system integrated with their website and this could be a good lesson for other companies.

I have been a Namecheap customer for a couple years and look forward to winning a some of this!

Online Residual Income

More and more I am hearing this in discussions offline, “how can I earn online income?”.

One of the mistakes I think a lot of people are making is that they are looking for ways to make money online and getting frustrated because they do not have the knowledge it takes to pull it off. But, if they would just turn the equation around, the answer would come to them a lot easier.

Don’t try to find a way to make money online, look at what you have a passion for, and turn that into an income stream.

Same thing applies to the term “Niche” ! That term has become a key element in making profitable blogs and websites, but it can also be a stumbling block. The Niche you need is not of a product or item, it is your personal Niche !

Blogging can be learned, but your personal niche and passion are what drives you and makes you unique, and in the online world, being unique and driven can be the difference in success and failure.

Ask yourself what you are good at, and what you love, that is what you should be researching.

If you are going to be spending your extra time online at least make it in an area that you really enjoy!

Google SearchWiki

Don’t miss the Official Google SearchWiki announcement and intro video !

The new Google SearchWiki has some pretty cool features. Although changing page rankings will not affect everyones search results it is a great way to see the notes from everyone on any given page, and this just might become as important as the rankings themselves.

Seeing live reviews of other pages will certainly have an impace how what pages I go to when conducting a search.

What are your thoughts?

Google Promote and Remove

Google is experimenting with new Promote and Remove buttons in the SERPS moving the search experience to a more personal level. They clearly state that this is an experiment and it may only last a short time.

This experiment lets you influence your search experience by adding, moving, and removing search results. When you search for the same keywords again, you’ll continue to see those changes. If you later want to revert your changes, you can undo any modifications you’ve made. Note that this is an experimental feature and may be available for only a few weeks. – Source : Google Experimental Search

If this experiment works, it could mean a whole new level of thinking in the SEO world. Getting a top ranking for any keyword may just be a thing of the past. This would seem to be ushering in a new era for Google where bogus search results will easily be washed out by the people doing the searches, however, as we have seen in the past with things like Google Bombs, it may also open up a new problem for them to combat.

There is also a great video that goes along with Google’s announcement that explains the SearchWiki

What do you think?
