The new Google SearchWiki has some pretty cool features. Although changing page rankings will not affect everyones search results it is a great way to see the notes from everyone on any given page, and this just might become as important as the rankings themselves.
Seeing live reviews of other pages will certainly have an impace how what pages I go to when conducting a search.
Google is experimenting with new Promote and Remove buttons in the SERPS moving the search experience to a more personal level. They clearly state that this is an experiment and it may only last a short time.
This experiment lets you influence your search experience by adding, moving, and removing search results. When you search for the same keywords again, you’ll continue to see those changes. If you later want to revert your changes, you can undo any modifications you’ve made. Note that this is an experimental feature and may be available for only a few weeks. – Source : Google Experimental Search
If this experiment works, it could mean a whole new level of thinking in the SEO world. Getting a top ranking for any keyword may just be a thing of the past. This would seem to be ushering in a new era for Google where bogus search results will easily be washed out by the people doing the searches, however, as we have seen in the past with things like Google Bombs, it may also open up a new problem for them to combat.
There is also a great video that goes along with Google’s announcement that explains the SearchWiki
Based on the fact that I have received some pretty mean spirited emails about my posts on Gothic Google and Emo Google I thought I should give equal coverage to those who I believe are sending those emails.
And I will admit that Redneck Google (also known as Hoogle) looks to have a little more technology than either of the Gothic or Emo pages. Each of those pages are simply a cover page that leads to regular Google results using a Google Custom Search Engines.
Redneck Google is actually a translator page that converts your normal search terms into a Redneck version with links to valid search results. Pretty impressive for a bunch of Rednecks ! Looking through the results it is obvious that this site has actually done their research and truly understand what Redneck means.
Note : Currently GooGoth (Gothic Google) is returning errors.
While browsing my analytics I noticed a search someone had performed at Google for digsby or pidgin.
Nothing real earth shattering there, but what I did find interesting is that when I followed that search, the very first result is a status page from Twitter.
More and more we ares seeing Social Networking and now Micro Blogging pages get good results in the SERPS. So if you think that what you type in Twitter will only be seen in Twitter, think again. This should be another reason to consider using Twitter as a Social additive to your blogging. Not only can you help drive traffic to your blog with your Tweats, you can gain even more exposure with your status pages.
