The new Google SearchWiki has some pretty cool features. Although changing page rankings will not affect everyones search results it is a great way to see the notes from everyone on any given page, and this just might become as important as the rankings themselves.

Seeing live reviews of other pages will certainly have an impace how what pages I go to when conducting a search.

What are your thoughts?

Google is experimenting with new Promote and Remove buttons in the SERPS moving the search experience to a more personal level. They clearly state that this is an experiment and it may only last a short time.

This experiment lets you influence your search experience by adding, moving, and removing search results. When you search for the same keywords again, you’ll continue to see those changes. If you later want to revert your changes, you can undo any modifications you’ve made. Note that this is an experimental feature and may be available for only a few weeks. – Source : Google Experimental Search

If this experiment works, it could mean a whole new level of thinking in the SEO world. Getting a top ranking for any keyword may just be a thing of the past. This would seem to be ushering in a new era for Google where bogus search results will easily be washed out by the people doing the searches, however, as we have seen in the past with things like Google Bombs, it may also open up a new problem for them to combat.

There is also a great video that goes along with Google’s announcement that explains the SearchWiki

What do you think?

After looking at the SERPS for WordPress SEO and a little keyword research I wondered if the results were similar for Blogger SEO?

They are not even close, WordPress SEO gets four times the searches than Blogger. Why is that?

Are WordPress users more aware of SEO or is Blogger just so good at it that people using that platform do not even worry about it?

Based on the fact that I have received some pretty mean spirited emails about my posts on Gothic Google and Emo Google I thought I should give equal coverage to those who I believe are sending those emails.

And I will admit that Redneck Google (also known as Hoogle) looks to have a little more technology than either of the Gothic or Emo pages. Each of those pages are simply a cover page that leads to regular Google results using a Google Custom Search Engines.

Redneck Google is actually a translator page that converts your normal search terms into a Redneck version with links to valid search results. Pretty impressive for a bunch of Rednecks ! Looking through the results it is obvious that this site has actually done their research and truly understand what Redneck means.

Note : Currently GooGoth (Gothic Google) is returning errors.

Nothing real earth shattering there, but what I did find interesting is that when I followed that search, the very first result is a status page from Twitter.

More and more we ares seeing Social Networking and now Micro Blogging pages get good results in the SERPS. So if you think that what you type in Twitter will only be seen in Twitter, think again. This should be another reason to consider using Twitter as a Social additive to your blogging. Not only can you help drive traffic to your blog with your Tweats, you can gain even more exposure with your status pages.

I just got an email from a company, (I am not going to print their name or link to them for several reasons), and here is what they told me …

…offers you a way to get your web site onto the first page of Google and other search engines guaranteed!…

I have not seen a guarantee for search engine placement in some time and I was hoping that people were not still falling for this. There is no way anyone can guarantee you that they can put your website on the first page of Google or any other top search engine. Yeah, they might be able to get a site listed for a term and actually get it on the first page, but to guarantee it is just crazy. Please do not fall for this.

Just think logically, even if they were that good, and everyone jumped on this program, there is only so much room at the top. If they signed up 500 sites for a term, how can they squeeze all those sites unto the top page, the print would be really small, lol.

Search engines want true organic listings, and for some reason a lot of people struggle with this concept. If you write an original article you are creating an organic (natural) post. And the results you achieve might just surprise you. And yes, this is probably harder for me as a programmer than you can imagine. I tend to want to program my results, but, over the last year I have learned the value of just letting the blogging flow.

I have 2 clear examples of writing a post that was influenced by my own circumstances and imagination that were rewarded in the SERPS.

The first was written 2 months ago and included a video. I was just trying to relay my thought on how we each respond to making mistakes and that we need to be open minded while taking responsibility for our own actions. This post is ranked # 2 on Google for open minded vlogging and # 14 for the term open minded blogging. The title was “Making mistakes and being open minded“. And yes I gave some thought to the SEO in the post, but, I was still surprised to see people coming to my site for the above mentioned terms.

The second post was ” WordPress XML Parsing Error” and landed pretty good for several terms including, WordPress error, WordPress XML Error, and WordPress Parsing error. The post was basically a log of troubleshooting an error I was having with WordPress. Yes I did a little SEO on the post, but the results once again were above my expectations.

As a side note, the only reason I knew of these results is because I evaluate my analytics to get a better understanding of how people find and use my sites. This work is probably one of the keys to my success, as I know it is not my pure writing skills.

The moral of the story…..

Be natural, be organic.

It is good to do the SEO work, but do not JUST let the SEO drive the Content.

Over the last year or so there have been a few comments and blog posts about Google Vehicle Search in Google Base. There are lots of vehicles listed in Google Base and you can search these vehicles using the Vehicle Search page.

This week I have been seeing these results show up in a regular Google search. While doing research on selling one of my older cars I noticed that typing in the Year, Make and Model brought up a new link for the Vehicles Search on the Google Search results page.

I really liked this option. Without jumping to a bunch of car sites I can get a quick idea of the current selling price of a vehicle. Most of the vehicles listed were posted by Cars.com which is an excellent Car database site, so the quality of the search results were pretty good.

Not sure why, but the results are not showing up consistently. I have tried several different cars and the Vehicles link does not always show up, even for the same car.

Just a note, if you think Blog and Website flipping is something new, Cars and Houses have had a pretty good “flipping” market for years and years. I personally think Car flipping is the easiest of the 3.
