How To Use WordPress

This is one of my favorite questions people ask. The answer is pretty much infinite.

WordPress can be used in so many ways. Whether you need a standard blog platform or an easy way to do an old fashioned website, WordPress can deliver. Between the wealth of WordPress Themes, Plugins and Widgets available you can mix and match the tools to quickly create a website or blog. It is also a great way to Park a domain while you are developing the site, you can setup a home page, with enough information to get indexed in the search engines so that when the site goes live it is already indexed for the main topic.

And to clarify, I am talking about self hosted WordPress, not hosting on WordPress.com. Using WordPress.com to host a blog is certainly an easy way to get started. Personally I just can not see giving away an opportunity to build your own site and credibility in the search engines and social networks. Yes, that means there is a cost, but the cost is so low these days, if you are gonna step out and create something, make it yours.

The Non Blogger

I guess that is what I am, the Non Blogger. I sat down early Saturday morning with the intention of catching up my blogs and doing some writing.

So what happened?

Someone emailed me and confirmed an idea I already was thinking about, and that sent me on a 2 day programming project, lol. So here it is Sunday night, the WordPress Plugin and WordPress Theme  I was working  on all weekend are done, but I did not get any of my blogging caught up.

For me, it comes down to enjoying the developing side of the blogs and sites more than the writing side, but that sure makes it hard to keep a site up to date.

WordPress Niche Guide eBook

Thanks to my good friend Garry Conn I have finally put together my eBook, “CyberCoders WordPress Niche Guide”

Over the last few years I have developed my routine for Niche Blogs and shared it with just a couple people. Now I want to share what I have learned with you.

Why? It’s actually pretty simple. I like coding a lot more than anything else, and since I am constantly helping people develop their Niche Blogs, I thought it would be easier to put it in the form of an eBook.

And since Garry and I have worked so well together, it seemed obvious to utilize our given skill sets, let Garry do the Marketing, and I will do the Coding.

The product purchase includes the eBook, the Tag Theme and a private link to my Newsletter.

If you sign up for the eBook Newsletter I will send you any updates to this eBook that I publish along with News of upcoming eBooks.

Minimal WordPress Theme

I think this WordPress Theme, if you could call it that, is growing on me.

I keep looking at all the themes that are out there and a lot of them are just cluttered. There is always a lot of talk about how each new WordPress Theme is designed for SEO better than the last. Well, this theme is about as minimal as you can make it and still be readable so I have decided to just let it roll for awhile and see how it goes. It’s like going back to the days of no GUI on the desktop, lol.

I have all the elements setup the way I like and it is already being indexed so it has a good start.

Basic WordPress Theme

Since I started working on a Basic WordPress Theme last month I have had a few request to release what I have for others to experiment with.

So here it is. CyberCoder Basic WordPress Theme (Zip File)

If you have any interest in learning to create new WordPress Themes I would highly recommend downloading this theme to play with. It is about as basic as you can possibly make a theme. One of the best ways to learn is to try a few things and see what happens. If you have the ability to setup a sub domain it makes it very easy to experiment with things like this.

I host on Dreamhost which allows me to have unlimited sites. Doing it this way allowed me to purchase and setup a couple domains just for the learning experience and I have never seen a better way to learn. And if you want to sign-up with Dreamhost use the Promo Code (CYBER30HOSTING) without parenthesis for $30 off of the One Year plan.

This Basic WordPress Theme has very little styling with a single sidebar on the right hand side. As usual I have set it up to be fluid width, which is just my personal preference. If you would like to see what it looks like I have it installed on CyberCoded.net as a test site.

Feel free to drop me a comment either here or on CyberCoded and let me know what you think.
