RSS Autodiscover

As a typical programmer I sometimes look more at the code than I do the content.

With that being said I have noticed a lot of websites that have their RSS Autodiscover tag pointing to a feed that is different from what they advertise as their RSS subscription to readers. Hopefully this video will help identify and resolve this problem.

  1. Great video David… I finally took care of this last week and my numbers are increasing steadily everyday. So many blogs just like my own are not taking full advantage of this. Great job the video will make total sense to anyone who watches it. 🙂

  2. David,

I am seeing many bloggers still make this mistake. We should touch on this on our Monday RadioBlogTalk show. 🙂

I am going to get this video displayed on the sidebar of my blog as well.

    Talk to you soon,

  3. Garry one thing I should have noted, some plugins out there that solve this problem still leave the link as it appears. This means the link can look like it is going to WordPress feed but if you click it, it will redirect to the Feedburner.

  4. On the topics of Plugins…

I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have been hired to repair someone’s WordPress blog due to conflicting Plugins that have wacked out the MySQL DB. That in itself my be excellent material for a point of discussion in a future show.

WordPress is maintained by some very educated and highly skilled programmers. However, plugins at times can be created by armature programmers. And as you have mentioned to me many times. Some WordPress plugins get created without consideration of other plugins which can cause a conflict thus crashing a WordPress blog.

People should be very careful when choosing plugins for their WordPress blog. Personally for me, that is why I tend to not use them.

  5. Garry Conn,

This is exactly why people who can not/do not program should hire pro’s to get them setup. I am not a programmer, but I am smart enough to hire the best I can find to make sure my stuff works properly. I can assure you that If something breaks, I do not try to fix it. This goes for anything. Hire the right people and you never go wrong.
